How amazing is this carousel charm?! It pairs so well with the chain and ribbon. Together they have this sort of sweet and nostalgic feel. I can just imagine how cute this will be during winter, paired with sweaters! The necklace was fairly easy to make and didn’t require much at all. I originally found this charm at Joann’s a few months back but really this could be made with any large charm. I’m even thinking about making another one.
My supplies were pretty simple, I used 3/8″ pink ribbon that I got from Hobby Lobby, A jewelry chain I found at Michael’s that had fairly large links for the ribbon to fit through, and a great carousel charm from Joann’s. Unfortunately I could not find the charm on their website so I’m not sure if they still have it. I also had scissors and needle nose pliers for my tools.
I started by deciding how long I wanted my chain and made it that length. I bought a long chain for this exact reason. I tried cutting it with the pliers but it actually worked out a lot better for me to just twist one of the links off at the length I wanted.
Once I had the chain how I liked it, I began threading my ribbon through. It is really important to make sure your chain is straight BEFORE you thread the ribbon through that section. I found that my chain would twist quite a bit and I’d need to stop frequently to adjust it. Here’s an example.
This is how the ribbon and chain should look together. It’s OK if your chain twists after the ribbon is inside and it should go back to how it’s supposed to look if you take a moment to straighten the chain back out.
I didn’t cut the ribbon off its spool until I threaded it all the way through my chain (which took a little while). I wanted to be sure I didn’t cut it too short. When I reached the end, I cut my ribbon to be pretty long, about 12″ past the chain ends on both sides. I then stretched out the chain and evened out the links to make sure it was as long as it could be, and then I double knotted the ribbon around the last link on both sides.
I also noticed that my ribbon folded itself in half inside the chain. I think this worked out really well and gives more support to both the ribbon and chain to keep everything in place.
I then threaded each end of the ribbon through opposite sides at the top of my charm, double knotting those as well.
Lastly, I tied a bow and cut the ribbon to how I liked it.
And that’s all there is to it! Now all that’s left to do is find some cute outfits to pair this with!!
